More Than a Prayer
A Lenten Series on the “Our Father” Presented by Fr. Satish Joseph, Ph.D.
The “Our Father” is more than just a prayer that Jesus taught his disciples. The prayer is also an insight into the thought, life, prayer, theology and spirituality of Jesus. Through reflections, group discussions, communal dinners, and prayers, this six-week series will lead us not only to a deeper understanding of the Lord’s prayer but also give us deeper insights into the heart of Jesus. This has implications for Christian discipleship today. Days: Fridays of Lent (February 20, 27; March 6, 13, 20, 27) Dinner included. Time: 6:30 - 8:00 pm Location: Immaculate Conception Church lower level (MSH) Participants: All are welcome. $10 Registration required. Only 120 seats available. |

Lenten Almsgiving Project: Immigrant Families at St. Helen School
Lent calls us to prayer, fasting, and almsgiving—spiritual road signs guiding us through this holy season. While our liturgies anchor our prayer, St. Helen Parish also chooses an annual Lenten project to turn our fasting into tangible love for our neighbors.
This year, we are responding to a pressing need within our own community, highlighted by Archbishop Casey’s recent letter to the faithful regarding our immigrant brothers and sisters. As the Archbishop reminds us, “The life of Jesus challenges us to consider how we treat those who are refugees, those who are seeking a home, and those who are unjustly deemed criminals.”
This mission hits close to home: 33% of our St. Helen School family are members of the immigrant and refugee community. Many are our brothers and sisters through baptism, yet they face daunting social and economic hurdles.
Our Lenten Almsgiving Project will provide:
While our dedicated St. Vincent de Paul Society continues its vital work for the broader community, funds raised through this Lenten project will go directly to our school community. Our Family Advocate from the school will identify specific families in need and we will offer a one-time annual payment sponsorship.
We invite you to stand in solidarity with our school family this Lent. Your sacrifice ensures that our fasting does not merely aid our own spirituality but flows out in active love for those closest to us.
